Project Collaboration Plan
Nikhil and I went with Option 2, combining all the concepts into something unique and you feel is awesome. We decided to go with a Translator, in which we can translate any words, phrases, and sentences to any of the common languages that are used in the world. We did this through the use of a Google Translate API which was found via RapidAPI. We plan to use this to help people around the world have an easier way to communicate and understand different languages.
Week of August 30, 2023 to September 6, 2023
Date | Project | Team Members | Work Done | Challenges |
---|---|---|---|---|
August 30 | Text Translator | Parav and Nikhil | Researched and identified Google Translate API for the project. Outlined the HTML structure, focusing on the Textarea and Select elements for input and language options. | Struggled with choosing the appropriate API for translations. We also had to figure out the API's documentation to understand its functionality and limitations. |
August 31 | Text Translator | Parav and Nikhil | Worked on setting up the basic JavaScript for the project. Initialized DOM manipulation elements and began structuring the async function for API calls. | Ran into CORS issues, which required us to rework how the API calls were made. We had to adjust our headers and spent considerable time troubleshooting. |
September 1 | Movie Search | Parav | Created a new project for a movie searcher, in which users can search up to discover the movies with the index inputted. I created a basic outline of how the movie search will look using CSS styling and basic HTML. | I had trouble with using the API and learning all the functions that it uses. It had been a while since I last used an API. |
September 2 | Text Translator | Parav and Nikhil | Finalized the HTML and CSS, focusing on responsiveness and visual aesthetics. Completed the JavaScript code for translation, including language detection and translation functions. | Faced challenges with API key exposure. Spent some time researching best practices to secure the key, which delayed our other tasks. |
September 3 | Text Translator | Parav and Nikhil with Krishiv and Shaurya | Conducted a collaborative code review. Received valuable feedback from Krishiv and Shaurya. Implemented minor code adjustments and UI enhancements based on their suggestions. | Faced minor UI/UX issues. Some buttons were not intuitively designed, and placeholder text was not informative enough. Had to rework some elements based on the feedback. |
September 4 | Movie Search | Parav | Finalized the entire hacks for this API assignment. Had to do all the javascript coding to have the api being fetched and outputting accurate data. | Had to look through old examples and make sure I read about the API before I was using it. |
September 5 | Text Translator | Parav and Nikhil | Conducted final testing of the application. Added comments to the code for better readability and future reference. Validated the application across different browsers. | Thankfully, faced no major issues today. Minor debugging was done, but no show-stopping issues. |
September 6 | Both Projects | All | Final review of both projects. Ensured code quality and application integrity. | No Challenges. |
